Buyer's guide · HVAC lead generation companies

How to choose an HVAC
lead generation company.

Every HVAC lead generation company says it sends you leads. The difference is whether those leads are shared or exclusive, whether anyone qualifies the homeowner first, and how you are charged. This guide covers what to check before you buy HVAC leads, and how Vance Digital compares.

What to check

Five questions to ask any HVAC lead generation company

1. Are the leads exclusive or shared? A shared lead is sold to several contractors at once, commonly three to five on lead platforms, and the job tends to go to whoever calls first. An exclusive lead goes to one contractor only. Ask whether your territory is exclusive and whether anything is resold.

2. Who qualifies the homeowner? On a lead marketplace you receive a form fill and do the qualifying yourself. Ask whether the homeowner is confirmed as ready to move forward soon, inside your service area, and wanting the exact service you offer before you hear about them.

3. How fast is the follow-up? A homeowner who fills out a form at 7pm and hears back the next afternoon has usually already called someone else. Ask how quickly they are contacted and by what channel.

4. How are you charged? Providers charge per lead, per appointment or a retainer. Per-lead pricing means you pay whether or not the homeowner is serious; a retainer means you pay whether or not it works. Ask what happens to the cost if the leads are poor.

5. Are you locked in? Check for contracts, minimums and cancellation terms. If it stops being worth it, you should be able to stop.
